Emotion-Focused Family Therapy

EFFT is a model designed to empower caregivers to be the agent of healing to help their children, regardless of age. By harnessing the existing connection between loved ones, EFFT can interrupt symptoms, help process overt and underlying emotions that may be fueling problematic thoughts and symptoms, and lead to strengthening of the relationship. Whether a caregiver is a parent, spouse or significant other, EFFT clinicians support the caregiver to implement interventions using emotion coaching and create hope for families even when treatment is refused.

EFFT recognizes that caregivers struggle to “do what is needed” because of fear, shame or other emotions that “block” them. The clinician is there to empower the caregiver by processing these blocks and helping them to uncover new pathways for healing as a family.
